The company Wietmarscher sanitary and Vehicles GmbH (WAS) is a German manufacturer of rescue and special vehicles based in Wietmarschen .

history

WAS was founded in 1987. Since 2001, the vehicle cases for the ambulance have been manufactured using the "WAS-VacuTherm® process". Around 1,600 vehicles are manufactured annually for customers from over 40 countries. Over 25,000 vehicles were produced by 2017; In 2017, sales of around 96 million euros were achieved. WAS has around 350 employees. As a training company, WAS offers around ten training paths. Every year WAS is represented with an exhibition stand at the RETTmobil . An electrically operated box-body ambulance was presented there in 2018.

A special feature are the "WAS-Assist systems" such as the equipment control using the RFID technology WAS Smart Check , the electromechanical door closing aid WAS Door Assist and the disinfection system WAS SanSafe .

In addition to expanding vehicles, WAS also offers driver safety training, has a service and maintenance offering and publishes the customer magazine Safety First .

WAS offers vehicles for the rescue service , fire brigade , police , disaster control and mountain rescue services , among others .

Special orders

The 427 medical equipment vehicles required for the Medical Task Force based on the MAN TGL10.220 4 × 2 BB, with a total value of over 70 million euros, were produced by WAS until 2016.

In 2019, WAS received the order to build 485 ambulances for the East of England Ambulance Service Trust based on the Fiat Ducato . Also for the HART of NHS vehicles were expanded.

In 2019, WAS built 203 ambulances for the Egyptian Ambulance Organization , after 300 ambulances had already been ordered in 2016.
