WikiStage is a collaborative video website that provides a platform for debate. It is supported by the non-profit - Association managed Wikis day, which was founded by John Bittel 2012 and Berlin and Paris acted out.

The network organizes thematically oriented events worldwide, at which experts present on the respective topic in WikiTalks . The recorded lectures will be made available to the public without restriction on the WikiStage website and YouTube and will be compiled in debates.

On the debate wall, users can get a quick overview of a topic and vote on the best contributions. The website is supported by a community of 100 volunteers in 12 countries on 4 continents.

Origin of name

The name was chosen to show the connection between the project and the values ​​of Wiki projects, in which the collaborative creation of content is central. The suffix Stage refers to the opportunity speakers are given to present their idea from the big stage of a conference.

purpose

The goal is to provide a free collection of videos that convey knowledge in a modern and accessible format. Institutions and individuals should be given the opportunity to present their ideas. The organization states on its website:

WikiTalk

The presentations on WikiStage are called WikiTalks. These lectures are three, six or nine minutes long, in English , French , Spanish and German and each deal with a specific topic. These range from history and philosophy to genetics and jazz , but the propagation of products or extremist views is prohibited.

WikiTalks are mostly filmed at conferences, but they can also be recorded as WikiCorner on a small scale without an audience .

The first WikiStage event was held on March 30, 2013 at ESCP Europe Paris under the motto “Celebrate Curiosity”, after which other French universities held WikiStage conferences, including Sciences Po , École Centrale Paris and the University Paris-Dauphine . In July 2016 WikiStage counted 70 conferences from institutions such as the Chamber of Commerce in Nouakchott , Mauritania , Stanford University and the World Bank .

WikiStage events are organized collaboratively under the license granted free of charge by the WikiStage Association . Anyone can apply to be an organizer and WikiStage supports them with a set of tools and guidelines . The local organizers create the program of the event, ask speakers to provide their WikiTalks under the Creative Commons license, record the lectures and upload them to WikiStage.
