The Wikipedia monument ( Pomnik Wikipedii in Polish ) is a bronze-colored sculpture about 1.70 meters high by the sculptor Mihran Hakobjan in Słubice , Poland . It has the shape of a globe open at the top as a puzzle, the Wikipedia logo , which is carried by two women and two men. The nude figures stand on a pedestal that represents a pile of books. The plastic was made of weatherproof plastic .
Idea and construction
The idea for the memorial came from Krzysztof Wojciechowski , author and director of the Collegium Polonicum : Wikipedia is the greatest project that has ever been created by people. In particular, the community of Polish-language Wikipedia - measured by the number of Polish speakers - is particularly active, which is why a location in Poland is suitable. Tomasz Ciszewicz, the mayor of the city of Słubice at the time, supported the idea and ensured full financing by the city administration with 62,000 złoty (almost 15,000 euros ). The sculpture was created by Mihran Hakobjan, an Armenian artist and a graduate of the Collegium Polonicum. It was unveiled on October 22, 2014 after a popular science symposium at the Collegium Polonicum on Plac Frankfurcki .
