Viktor Nikolajewitsch Blinow ( Russian Виктор Николаевич Блинов ; born January 1, 1945 in Omsk , † July 9, 1968 in Moscow ) was a Soviet - Russian ice hockey player who won the gold medal at the 1968 Winter Olympics with the Soviet national team .
Career
Viktor Blinow began his career at Spartak Omsk in 1961 and made his debut for Spartak's men's team in Class A in February 1962 . In 1963 he rose with the club renamed Aeroflot in the second division. In total, he completed 80 games for Omsk by 1964, in which he scored 13 goals before he was delegated to Spartak Moscow . With Spartak he won the Soviet championship in 1967 and formed a defender duo with Alexei Makarov . At the time, this duo was considered one of the strongest in the league.
Overall, Wiktor Blinow scored 42 goals in 190 Class A games in his career.
International
On February 26, 1965, he was in a game against Canada for the first time for the Soviet national team on the ice. His international career was crowned with the gold medal at the 1968 Winter Olympics , which is also a world and European championship title. For the national team, he scored ten goals in 32 international matches. In 1968 he was named the Honored Master of Sports of the USSR .
Death and honors
Blinow struggled with alcohol problems and drank alcohol regularly from the age of 15. He died on July 9, 1968 at the age of 22 of complications from a heart attack after collapsing during a training session. He was buried in the Vagankovo Cemetery in Moscow.
In 2001, the then ice rink at HK Avangard Omsk was renamed in honor of SKK Blinowa . In addition, an annual ice hockey tournament is held in August that bears his name. Since Blinow's death, his # 2 jersey number has not been awarded by HK Awangard Omsk.
