Viktor Olegowitsch Pelevin
Wiktor Olegowitsch Pelevin ( Russian Виктор Олегович Пелевин , scientific transliteration Viktor Olegovič Pelevin ; born November 22, 1962 in Moscow ) is a Russian writer . He currently lives in Moscow and is considered one of the most important and widely read living storytellers in the country.
Life
In his novels and stories, Pelewin describes contemporary Russian events from an unusual, surrealistic and mystical perspective. Pelevin has recently become internationally known, especially through his novels Omon hinterm Mond (Russian Омон Ра) and Generation P (Russian Generation П).
After studying electrical engineering, Pelevin soon turned to literature and moved to the Moscow Institute of Literature. His first short story was published in 1989 and he has been working as a freelance writer since 1990. Initially, several of his stories were published in various magazines, now five novels and around fifty short stories have appeared. In 2001 he received the " Richard Schönfeld Prize for Literary Satire" from the Hamburg Cultural Foundation.
Pelewin is considered to be public shy, does not give interviews and does not hold readings. He communicates with his fan base (he has cult author status) mainly over the Internet.
Most of Pelewin's works were translated by Andreas Tretner .
