Raymond Verdaguer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Raymond Verdaguer (born December 12, 1947 in the French Pyrenees ) is of Catalan descent and a Canadian artist and illustrator .

Raymond Verdaguer is a Canadian by choice and lives in New York . Since 1976 he has appeared in public with copperplate engravings , woodcuts and linocuts . His work appears in newspapers and magazines such as The New York Times , Harper's Magazine , Wall Street Journal , San Francisco Magazine, Liberation , International Herald Tribune, Le Point, Le Monde diplomatique , Iablis . Raymond Verdaguer works as a book illustrator for a number of major publishers in the USA and Europe (Hachette Livre, Random House , Viking Penguin and others).

Verdaguer prefers simple outlines and strong dynamic contrasts . It mostly deals with political and ethical issues. His illustrations show disaffected and suffering people in a destroyed environment, beset by monstrous technology and dubious interests. In doing so, he takes an anthropological perspective : the person suffering now and here is the person suffering in all times and spaces.
