Wiktorija Alexejewna Baranowa , also Viktoria Baranova , ( Russian Виктория Алексеевна Баранова ; born February 6, 1990 in Zhukovsky ) is a former Russian track cyclist .

Athletic career

In 2007 Wiktorija Baranowa was in Aguascalientes junior world champion in keirin and third in the team sprint , with Elena Melnischenko . In the same year she stood twice on the podium at the European Track Championships for the youngsters in Cottbus , finishing second in the sprint and third in the 500-meter time trial . At the Junior World Championships in Cape Town in 2008 , she finished second in the time trial and third in the sprint and team sprint (with Melnischenko). At the European Junior Track Championships in Pruszków in the same year , she was European sprint champion, second in time trial and third in team sprint (with Melnischenko).

In 2010 Baranova started in the elite for the first time and finished seventh in the sprint at the World Track Championships , eighth in the team sprint (with Olga Strelzowa ) and 19th in Keirin. In 2011 she became Russian champion in keirin and double European champion (U23) in keirin and sprint, and third in the time trial. At the UEC European Rail Championships 2011 in Apeldoorn , she won the bronze medal in the sprint.

2012 doping ban

Before the 2012 Olympic Games , Baranova tested positive for testosterone during a doping training test in Belarus on July 24, 2012 , and her planned start at the Olympic Games was canceled after admitting her guilt. It was then banned for two years until the beginning of August 2014.
