Wild Planet is the second album by the music group The B-52’s .

General

The B-52's recorded their second album in April 1980 in the Bahamas and released it in September of that year. They co-produced it and experimented with electronic music for the first time.

Cover illustration

The cover is based on the style of the debut album ; the group sits on white metal chairs or stands in a casual pose in front of a red background. The hairstyles of the singers and the kitschy outfits of the two women are similar to the first album. The photo is from Lynn Goldsmith .

To individual titles

The record begins with Party out of bounds . The piece is reminiscent of the songs Rock Lobster and Dance this mess around on the first album. The title is based on Fred Schneider's radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio, but also refers to a fundraiser held annually in Athens, Georgia , the band's hometown.

The fourth title is give me back my man . It builds on Cindy Wilson's melodic, broad and haunting, humming vocals. She sings the chorus, “ I'll give you fish, I'll give you candy ” (German: “ I'll give you fish and sweets ”) very emotionally, despite its parodic or comical content.

The fifth title, Private Idaho , concludes the first page of the LP release. He is characterized by rock guitar riffs . The song also served as the namesake for the film My Private Idaho .

The seventh title, Quiche Lorraine , refers to the name of a poodle .

The album ends with the track 53 miles west of venus . The text, which consists only of the title, is sung to the end.
