The Wild Rice River is about 390 kilometers long winding northward flowing left tributary of the Red River of the North in the southeast of the US state North Dakota .

Its tributaries also drain a small portion of northern South Dakota . Over the Red River, Lake Winnipeg and Nelson River , it is part of the Hudson Bay catchment area and drains an area of ​​5783 km² in the Red River Valley region . It is one of two tributaries of the Red River of the North with that name; the other is the Wild Rice River in Minnesota . Despite its length, it is a relatively small river with an annual average flow rate of only around 3 m³ / s.

Run

The river rises as a discontinuous body of water in Brampton Township , about 10 km south of Cogswell in the southeast of Sargent County and initially flows extremely meandering through this and Richland Counties , through the Tewaukon Reservation and the cities of Cayuga , Mantador and Great Bend where it finally swings north. West of Wahpeton he begins a parallel course to the Red River, which he follows up to its confluence in Cass County , about five kilometers south of Frontier at a distance of five to eleven kilometers in sharp turns.

Flow rate
