Wilderich Freiherr Ostman from Leye (* 4. June 1923 in Bonn , † the 30th May 1990 in Bremen ) was a German politician of the SPD .

Life and work

Wilderich Freiherr Ostman von der Leye belonged to the Westphalian noble family Ostman von der Leye . After graduating from high school, he was a marine from 1941 to 1945. After the war he studied law and medicine from 1946 to 1954 . Afterwards he was co-owner of several publishing houses and from 1958 to 1962 editor of the writings for cultural anthropology .

politics

Ostman von der Leye joined the SPD in 1957. From 1964 to 1973 he was a member of the Bonn City Council. In the 1969 Bundestag election he ran as a direct candidate in the Bundestag constituency of Bonn , but was unable to assert himself against the CDU politician Alo Hauser . However, with a place on the SPD's state list in North Rhine-Westphalia, he still made it into the Bundestag. In 1972 he was re-elected from the state list and remained a member of the German Bundestag until the end of the 1976 legislative period . In the Bundestag he was a member of the special committee on criminal law reform. Until shortly before his death in 1990, Ostman von der Leye was still involved in local politics in Bonn.

"Sonia" affair

At the end of the 1970s, Ostman von der Leye was suspected of being involved in drug smuggling when the skipper of his sailing yacht "Sonia" was arrested for smuggling hashish in France. Ostman von der Leye's complicity could not be proven.
