Wilfried Micke

Wilfried Micke (born November 18, 1943 in Dortmund ; † October 13, 2018 ) was a German table tennis player . As an uncompromising offensive player with short pimples on the outside of the forehand side, he achieved many successes with his clubs DJK Unitas Dortmund, Borussia Dortmund and (since 1968) PSV Borussia Düsseldorf . Professionally, Wilfried Micke was managing director of a mail order company with table tennis items.

Greatest successes

Micke joined the Borussia Dortmund club as a teenager and moved to PSV Düsseldorf in 1967. In 1968 he finished third at the German championship in doubles with Claus Scholz. His greatest successes are five team championships and two cup championships with his club PSV Borussia (later Borussia Düsseldorf). In 1977 he withdrew from the first team and thus the table tennis Bundesliga . By then he had played more than 400 Bundesliga games. He played for a few years in the second team and finally retired from active sport in 1979. For this Düsseldorf club he worked as a manager until 1994 after the end of his active career.

Wilfried Micke trained as a chemical laboratory assistant and worked for the Dortmund Actien brewery until 1970 . In 1970 he opened a specialist shop for table tennis accessories (sport-micke), which in 1977 merged with Eberhard Schöler's company (schöler-table tennis ) to form schöler + micke . As one of the first table tennis dealers, Wilfried Micke offered his customers custom-made table tennis bats as early as 1970 - bat sticks and the associated rubbers could be individually combined - a service that is a matter of course in table tennis today.

Wilfried Micke had been married to his wife Marianne Becker since December 1975. He had a daughter Anja and a son Sebastian.
