Wilhelm Griesinger Medal of the DGPPN

The Wilhelm-Griesinger-Medal of the DGPPN is an award for the lifetime achievement of psychiatrists, who have rendered themselves “great personal commitment and special achievements in the field of psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychosomatics”. It is intended to honor "outstanding achievements in theory and practice in prevention, diagnostics, research or the care of mental illnesses in Germany".

The Wilhelm Griesinger Medal has been awarded since 2013. With this award, the DGPPN's board of directors is resuming a tradition with a new dedication, which is linked to the name of the psychiatrist Wilhelm Griesinger by resolution of July 1986 - medals had already been awarded in 1986, 1988 and 1989.
