Wilhelm Adolph Paulli , also Pauli (* 1719 in Bad Bramstedt ; † August 21, 1772 in Hamburg ) was a German librettist and writer .

Life

Paulli attended school in Bad Bramstedt and the Johanneum in Hamburg . He then worked as bailiff for Johann Jacob Brinckmann, the administrator of the castle in Husum . In his book Poetic Thoughts, News from Political and Scholarly News from the year 1750, there is a. a. the poem The Three Rings , an early treatment of the ring parable before Gotthold Ephraim Lessing . Since 1752 he has been a member of the Freemason Order “Judica” in Hamburg, and he also held the titles “Grand Prince Holstein Secretary” and “Imperial Crowned Poet ”. Paulli also wrote libretti for the composer Georg Philipp Telemann . For him he wrote the texts for at least 4 of his captain's music from 1756 onwards . From 1766 he published the poetic weekly contribution to dessert in Hamburg .
