Wilhelm Birett

Wilhelm Birett (born July 7, 1793 in Amberg , † April 30, 1837 in Augsburg ) was a German bookseller.

Life

Wilhelm Birett was born as the son of the royal Bavarian councilor and lawyer at the Regenkreis Appellationshof .

He attended grammar school (today: Erasmus grammar school ) in Amberg, but in 1808 lost the sight of his right eye in an accident. His parents let him train as a businessman in Ansbach and he then went to Munich as a businessman and from there to Augsburg.

In 1825 he founded Birett'sche Antiquariats-Buchhandlung with the support of the director and librarian Daniel Eberhard Beyschlag (1759–1835). In just twelve years he succeeded in making this one of the most respected in Germany, which was respected even by the famous American bookstores in America.

In addition to his commercial activity, he was also a poor welfare councilor and municipal representative.

After his death, Fidelis Butsch continued to run the business, having been managing director since it was founded in 1825.
