Wilhelm Comberg

Wilhelm Comberg (born May 19, 1885 in Neviges , † May 23, 1958 in Rostock ) was a German ophthalmologist and professor at the University of Rostock .

The son of a farmer graduated from high school in Moers in 1904 and studied human medicine in Marburg , Greifswald , Münster , Munich , Heidelberg and Würzburg until 1909 . During his studies in 1904 he became a member of the Arminia Marburg fraternity . From 1907 to 1908 he served as a one-year volunteer (doctor) in Würzburg. From 1909 to 1910 he was a medical intern in Karlsruhe and Heidelberg. The doctorate took place in Heidelberg in 1911. In 1911 he served as a junior doctor in a pioneer battalion in Spandau , and in 1912 he worked as a ship's doctor at Hapag in Hamburg. 1914–1918 he took part in the First World War in various hospitals. The habilitation took place in 1921 for ophthalmology at the Humboldt University in Berlin on investigations into the question of "periodicity" in long lasting afterimages . 1926–33 he was apl. Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Berlin, 1933–1957 o. Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Rostock.

In 1945 he was initially released, but remained the clinic director and was newly appointed in 1946. From 1934 to 1937 he was dean of the medical faculty. In 1955 he became an outstanding scientist of the people in the GDR ; he was an honorary member of the German Ophthalmological Society in Heidelberg.

Comberg had a daughter who was a senior physician at the University Eye Clinic in East Berlin.
