Wilhelm Figdor

Wilhelm Figdor (born March 11, 1866 in Vienna ; † January 27, 1938 there ) was an Austrian plant physiologist .

Life

Wilhelm Figdor grew up as the son of Gustav Wolf Adolf Figdor and his wife Barbara Elizabeth Zeitler in wealthy circumstances. He studied in Bonn and Vienna and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD.

As an assistant to Julius Wiesner , he traveled to Java and Ceylon with him . In 1899 he became a private lecturer and in 1909 an associate professor for plant physiology at the University of Vienna . In 1906, together with Leopold von Portheim (1869–1947) and Hans Leo Przibram, he founded the biological research institute in Vienna's Prater , the so-called Vivarium (1906–1945).
