Wilhelm Franz Freiherr von Bibra (born March 24, 1824 in Biala , Galicia , † June 18, 1879 in Szolnok ) held high military posts. His last rank was Lieutenant Field Marshal in the Austro-Hungarian Army .

Origin and family

Wilhelm Franz Freiherr von Bibra comes from the Thuringian-Franconian noble family of the von Bibra . He was married to Maria Pan (1830-1911) from a Prague landowner family. The children Maria, Gabriele and Alfred came from the marriage.

Military career

In the battle of Custozza , Wilhelm Franz, as a colonel, was instrumental in the success and was awarded the Order of the Iron Crown III. Class awarded with war decoration. At the end of the German War , the Austrian army was reorganized, Wilhelm Franz was a member of the commission that created a set of rules for reorganization. Further promotions followed: in 1872 to major general and commander of the 1st Infantry Brigade, in 1878 to section chief in the Austro-Hungarian War Ministry . A little later, he was promoted to field marshal lieutenant and in 1879 was appointed head of the economic section and the entire military directorship. Emperor Franz Joseph appointed him a knight of the Austrian-Imperial Leopold Order in 1874 . He died unexpectedly of a heart attack at the end of an inspection tour in Szolnok at the age of 55 and was buried with full military honors in Vienna in the presence of the Austrian generals .
