Wilhelm Friedrich Besser (born September 27, 1816 in Warnstedt , † September 26, 1884 in Niederlößnitz ) was a German Lutheran theologian and clergyman .

Life

Wilhelm Friedrich Besser was born on September 27, 1816 in Warnstedt as the son of pastor Johann August Wilhelm Besser (1780–1841). He studied at the University of Halle since 1835 and switched to the University of Berlin two years later .

In 1838 he was Amanuensis in Halle of August Tholuck , who had taught him at the University of Halle. Thanks to the placement of his teacher at Berlin University, Ernst Wilhelm Hengstenberg , Besser became both tutor and professor in Wulkow . In 1841 he signed the Union Reverse , which he revoked in 1845 and consequently lost his office on December 17, 1847. In 1842 he married Jucunde Mühlmann in Halle. He entered the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Prussia , as a result of which he became pastor in Seefeld in 1848. In Leipzig in 1853 he took up the post of vice-principal of the Evangelical Lutheran Mission Society and four years later, in 1857, he became pastor in Waldenburg, for which he gave up his post of vice-principal; In 1864 he became a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Upper Church College in Breslau . In 1858 he married Elise von Erhardt.

From the University of Rostock better received because of his 14-volume work Bible studies theological honorary doctorate -Würde.

He died on September 26, 1884 in Niederlößnitz.
