Wilhelm Georg Friedrich , Prince of Orange-Nassau (born February 15, 1774 in The Hague ; † January 6, 1799 in Padua ) was the second son of the inheritance holder Wilhelm V of the Netherlands and Princess Friederike Sophie Wilhelmine of Prussia .

Life

He entered the military service of the Dutch Republic of the Seven United Provinces early on , took the French Geertruidenberg and Klundert from the French again in 1793, when Holland was attacked by Dumouriez , with a corps made up of scattered troops and drove the enemy back across the Lys . In 1794 he fought with his division in the Battle of Fleurus on the side of the Austrians, but after the conquest of the province of Utrecht in 1795 he resigned his post and followed his father to England . In 1796 he joined the army on the Lower Rhine as a major general in imperial (Austrian) service and distinguished himself with his brigade in front of Kehl , which was handed over when he stormed the Schwabenschanze. In February 1797 he came to the army of Archduke Karl in Italy , became a field marshal lieutenant and in November 1798 received supreme command of the entire Austrian army in Italy as Feldzeugmeister, but died on January 6, 1799 in Padua. He was not married and had no offspring.
