Wilhelm Gotthelf Höhnel
Wilhelm Gotthelf Höhnel (born March 19, 1871 in Linz ; † March 31, 1941 ibid) was an Austrian animal painter, son of the painter Friedrich Romilo Höhnel (1826–1882).
His father ran a painter, house painter, car varnishing and gilding workshop in Linz, and was also involved in art painting. After his death, his wife took over the operation of the workshop, which enabled her son Wilhelm Gotthelf to study art.
He studied in Munich first privately with Ferdinand Seebacher, then at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich, history painting with Louis Braun and animal painting with Heinrich von Zügel .
After completing his studies, he returned to Linz in 1892 and devoted himself to animal painting. In 1900 he took over the family business, but continued to work as a painter.
