Wilhelm Heinrich von Sachsen-Eisenach (born November 10, 1691 in Heerenveen - Oranienwald , † July 26, 1741 in Eisenach ) was Duke of Sachsen-Eisenach . He came from the Ernestine line of the House of Wettin .

family

Wilhelm Heinrich was born the son of Duke Johann Wilhelm von Sachsen-Eisenach and his first wife Amalia von Nassau-Dietz .

Life

As an 18-year-old, he barely survived a fall from his horse, but sustained a serious kidney injury that would plague him all his life. 1729, after the death of his father, he ascended the ducal throne of Saxony-Eisenach.

As early as 1723 by marrying a Prussian princess, Knight of the Order of the Black Eagle , he showed great interest in everything military. He gave two of his Eisenachian regiments in foreign services, for example in the Netherlands and in the Imperial Army. He also promised his nephew by marriage, the Prussian King Friedrich II. , On October 17, 1740 , another regiment, the later Fusilier Regiment No. 40. The regiment, which was set up in 1732 with two musketeer battalions , was in imperial service during the War of the Polish Succession Fought on the Rhine, in Northern Italy and on Lake Constance, with three battalions since 1734. After the Peace of Vienna and the return to Eisenach in 1739, it was reduced to one battalion; most of the officers resigned. Sworn in on Prussia on October 8, 1739, it was taken over by Colonel Christian Reinhold von Derschau in Magdeburg in 1740 . The duke hired 25 non-Eisenach officers, procured replacements for the second battalion and became head of the regiment.

He was buried in the Georgenkirche in Eisenach. With his death, the Dukes of Saxony-Eisenach died out, and the principality fell as an inheritance to Saxe-Weimar . Since then the two countries were united and known as the Duchy, from 1815 Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach .

Marriages

Wilhelm Heinrich was married twice. His first marriage was in 1713 with Albertine Juliane von Nassau-Idstein . In his second marriage he married Anna Sophie Charlotte von Brandenburg-Schwedt in 1723 . Both marriages remained childless.
