Wilhelm Hentze (theologian)

Wilhelm Hentze (* 1938 in Gütersloh ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian . From 1997 to 2013 he was provost at Paderborn Cathedral .

Life

After graduating from high school, he studied philosophy and theology in Paderborn and Rome in 1958 . In 1964 he was ordained a priest in Rome during the Second Vatican Council . From 1965 to 1968 he worked as a pastor in various communities in the Archdiocese of Paderborn, then initially continued his studies in Rome and then worked for two years in Siegen . In 1974 he received his doctorate in Rome with the thesis Church and Church Unity under Desiderius Erasmus von Rotterdam . Archbishop Johannes Joachim Degenhardt appointed him his chaplain and secretary in the same year.

From 1979 to 1985 he headed the Ecumenical Department in the Archbishop's General Vicariate and in 1981 also became director of the Johann Adam Möhler Institute for Ecumenism in Paderborn. From 1983 to 2013 he was an official of the Paderborn Archdiocese. Appointed canon in 1996, he was from 1997 to 2013 dean .
