Wilhelm Hildemar Mielck , often just Wilhelm Mielck , (born October 17, 1840 in Hamburg ; † March 16, 1896 ibid) was a German pharmacist and linguist .

Life

Mielck came from a family of pharmacists and pastors. He attended the Johanneum in Hamburg from 1852 to 1856 . Then he was a pharmacist apprentice in Hamburg until 1860, then a pharmacist assistant in the Schwan pharmacy with his father. During this time he attended lectures at the Academic Gymnasium . From 1861 to 1865 he worked at pharmacies in St. Petersburg and Moscow before he began studying at the University of Göttingen . He switched to Heidelberg University for two semesters . In 1869 he completed his studies with the pharmacy exam and the doctorate with Rudolph Fittig in Göttingen with the dissertation Contributions to the knowledge of piperic acid .

From 1867 to 1882 Mielck was head of economics in the Hamburg Society for the Advancement of Arts and Useful Trades . After completing his studies, he returned to Hamburg and became a pharmacist's assistant in his father's pharmacy. He also became a lecturer in botany and pharmacognosy at the Pharmaceutical Institute in Hamburg . In the Hamburg gymnastics club in 1816 he was a member of the memorial plaque commission after the end of the war in 1871, in 1874 co-founder and board member of the Association for Low German Language Research and in 1875 he became the owner of the Schwan pharmacy. From 1878 he was also a poor carer in Hamburg.

In 1885 Mielck became a member of the board of the Association for Hamburg History , in 1887 pharmaceutical assistant at the Medizinal Collegium in Hamburg and in 1888 library director in the Hamburg Society for the Advancement of the Arts and Useful Trades. Most recently in 1891 he took over the chairmanship of the commission for the collection of antiquities in Hamburg.

The marine biologist Wilhelm Mielck was his nephew.
