Hunting license from Wilhelm Hochgreve

Wilhelm Hochgreve (born November 9, 1885 in Osterwieck ; † May 30, 1968 in Goslar ) was a German author and reciter . The focus of his literary work is hunting romance and the representation of nature in his Harz homeland. Hochgreve is also known as the "Hermann Löns of the Harz".

life and work

Wilhelm Hochgreve was born in Osterwieck and attended high school in Goslar. He studied German , history and natural sciences in Munich , Berlin and Leipzig and was a student of lecturer Emil Milan in Berlin . Since the age of 18 he was active as a writer in the field of natural history and local history. The love of hunting and nature determined his poetic work. Stylistically, his works are reminiscent of the Heide poet Hermann Löns . He combined a romantic feeling with extensive and well-founded details about what happened in nature.

Hochgreve also appeared through recitation evenings mainly of Low German literature. He benefited from his virtuoso command of German dialects and his excellent ability to imitate animal noises. Documents on the life and work of Wilhelm Hochgreve can be found in the Goslar City Archives. A street in Goslar is named after him.
