Emil Milan , also Emil Milan August Jacob Meyer , (born April 2, 1859 in Frankfurt am Main , † March 13, 1917 in Berlin ) was a German theater actor , reciter and director .

Live and act

In his native city of Frankfurt am Main, he attended the Wöhlerschule and grammar school. He then embarked on a commercial career, but soon gave it up to devote himself to the theater. He also did a one year volunteer service. Subsequently he worked as an actor in Hagen (1886), at the court theater in Meiningen (1886/87) and at the city ​​theater in Cologne (1888-1892), where he also worked as a director. Then he tried himself successfully as a lecturer. In 1897 he became a member of the Masonic lodge Zur Einigkeit in Frankfurt am Main . In order to deepen his knowledge, from 1899 - at the age of 40 - he studied German language and literature at the University of Zurich , where he also worked as a Dr. phil. received his doctorate . As early as 1903 he was employed as a lecturer for lecture art at the University of Berlin , where he held special lectures and courses. He also held courses at the drama school of the German Theater established by Max Reinhardt in 1905 . Here he was also still effective as a director from 1906. On March 3, 1915, he was awarded the title of professor “in recognition of his scientific achievements”. His entire work has contributed significantly to the development of the later subject of speech and speech training. He was also a brilliant speaker and speaker himself.

He was married to the actress Adele Doré (1869-1918). Both graves are located in the south-west cemetery in Stahnsdorf .
