Wilhelm II ( January 22, 1355 - January 10, 1418 ) was Count of Namur from 1391 to 1418.

Life

Wilhelm II. Was born in 1355 as the eldest son of Count Wilhelm I from the House of Dampierre and Catherine of Savoy. In 1384 he married Maria von Bar, a daughter of Duke Robert I of the House of Scarponnois in Lorraine and Maria of France (a daughter of King John II ); the marriage remained childless. In 1391, when his father died, he inherited the county of Namur. In 1393, after Maria's death, he married Jeanne d'Harcourt (* 1372; † 16 February 1456) from the Norman house of Harcourt , daughter of Jean III, Comte d'Harcourt et d'Aumale, and Catherine de Bourbon (a daughter of Duke Pierre I de Bourbon ). From this marriage Wilhelm had a son whose name was unknown and who died as a small child.

His rule was largely peaceful, so that he could devote himself to expanding the economy and expanding the defenses. In 1408 he participated in the suppression of the revolt of the Liège residents against the Bishop of Liège , which ended with the Battle of Othée .

Since Wilhelm II died without legitimate descendants, the county passed to his brother Johann III in 1418 . about, the Namur 1421 to Duke Philip III. sold by Burgundy .
