politics

Imhoff was a member of the CDU and was chairman of the Evangelical Working Group of the CDU Hamburg .

From 1953, when he was elected for the electoral alliance Hamburg-Block , until 1978 he belonged to the Hamburg citizenship and was mainly involved in the field of cultural policy. In 1970 he demanded that the director of the Thalia Theater Boy Gobert also be appointed director of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus . A suggestion that he could not get through. The citizenship elected him a member of the fourth federal assembly , which in 1964 re-elected Heinrich Lübke as federal president .

As a deputy of the cultural authority , which he was in addition to his parliamentary activity, he rejected demands in 1962 that politics should influence which theaters or plays are attended by subsidized institutions: “It contradicts the principles of a liberal cultural policy, the organizations of the Volksbühne and of the Kulturring der Jugend to make regulations on visiting theaters, the directors of which make use of their right to put political plays up for discussion. ”In contrast, in December 1965 he criticized the awarding of the Lessing Prize to Peter Weiss for his commitment to communism, since communist artists should not be awarded a state prize from state funds.
