Wilhelm Kalliwoda (born July 19, 1827 in Donaueschingen ; † September 8, 1893 in Karlsruhe ) was a composer , music teacher and chief conductor of the Badische Staatskapelle at the court theater in Karlsruhe.

Live and act

Wilhelm Kalliwoda was born in Donaueschingen as the son of the Czech composer Johann Wenzel Kalliwoda and the singer Therese Brunetti (1803-1892). In 1849, at the age of 22, he came to Karlsruhe as the conductor of the Catholic church choir. In 1853 he was appointed music director of the Badische Staatskapelle. First alongside Hermann Levi , who was Kapellmeister from 1864 to 1872, then alongside Max Zenger , who was Kapellmeister from 1872 to 1875, Wilhelm Kalliwoda was appointed Kapellmeister in 1866 and held the position until 1875. In Karlsruhe he also worked as a music teacher throughout his life. His most famous students were Grand Duchess Luise and, in 1866, the German pianist and composer Luise Adolpha Le Beau . As a composer he published an overture, piano pieces and several songs. Kalliwoda made great contributions to the musical life of the city of Karlsruhe by founding the "Philharmonic Association".
