Wilhelm Kleberger

Wilhelm Kleberger (born April 20, 1878 in Södel near Friedberg , Hesse , † December 7, 1935 in Darmstadt ) was a German agricultural chemist . Since 1928 he has taught as an associate professor at the newly established chair for agricultural chemistry at the Ludwig University of Giessen .

Live and act

Wilhelm Kleberger, son of a landowner, studied agriculture in Hohenheim , Bonn and Jena . In 1900 he became a member of the Corps Agronomia Jenensis. In 1902 he was at the University of Jena with the thesis "Contribution to answer the question: What is the relationship between the bark of the milk yield and those established by measurements forms the animal's body?" Dr. Phil is doing his PhD. He then worked at the Agricultural Institute of the University of Giessen, headed by Paul Gisevius , with business issues. In 1906 he qualified as a professor with the text "The development of agricultural holdings under the influence of field clearing, investigated in some places in the Friedberg district" for the entire field of agricultural education . In the following years he worked as a lecturer at the University of Giessen. At the Agricultural Institute, he gave lectures on crop production, plant and animal nutrition and agricultural technology. In 1915 he was appointed associate professor .

Since 1907, Kleberger was in charge of the agricultural chemistry university laboratory, which he gradually removed from the Agricultural Institute after 1920 and transformed into an independent institution. In 1928 he became a scheduled professor for agricultural chemistry at the University of Giessen and thus the first holder of this newly created chair.

Kleberger's list of publications includes around 300 individual titles, mainly in the fields of plant nutrition and fertilization . His main work is the textbook “Fundamentals of Plant Nutrition and Fertilizer Theory”, which was published in four volumes between 1914 and 1928. In 1934, at the age of 56, Kleberger had to apply for his retirement for health reasons . Just a year later, death put an end to his life.
