Life

Wilhelm Klose was a nephew of August Klose , who was mayor of Karlsruhe twice and who, as a banker, had a considerable fortune. E.g. the Hygieia fountain by Johannes Hirt and the Malsch fountain at Ettlinger Tor, which no longer existed in 1963, equipped the festival hall, which was destroyed in World War II, and helped finance and maintain the artistic design of the Vierordtbad . He also contributed significantly to the establishment of a public library and to the support of needy sick people.

In his will he left the city of Karlsruhe 500,000 marks with the stipulation that this sum should gradually be spent on works of art in public spaces. A large part of this money was lost to inflation .
