Wilhelm Koch (born September 21, 1874 in Ludwigsburg , † January 20, 1955 in Tettnang ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian and university professor.

Life

After graduating from high school in Rottweil, Koch studied Catholic theology at the University of Tübingen from 1893 to 1897. In 1898 he was ordained a priest and then worked as a vicar in Stuttgart. In 1899 he became prefect at the Martinihaus in Rottenburg am Neckar and in 1902 repetition at the Wilhelmsstift in Tübingen.

In 1905 Koch became an associate professor for dogmatics and apologetics at the University of Tübingen, succeeding his teacher Paul Schanz . Due to his statements in lectures and sermons, he came into conflict with the seminar rain Benedikt Rieg, at whose instigation the third volume of the lectures ("Catholicism and Christianity") was indexed , although the Rottenburg Bishop Paul Wilhelm von Keppler had already given the imprimatur the previous year . In 1912, Keppler asked the Württemberg Ministry of Culture to remove Koch from his position. During the taking of evidence in 1916, in the hope of being able to save his professorship, Koch offered to renounce his teaching position for dogmatics and, if necessary, also for apologetics. The teaching assignment was then assigned to Ludwig Baur . His successor as Professor of Dogmatics was Karl Adam in 1918 , while Apologetics was separated from the professorship.

From 1916 to 1918 Koch was a garrison pastor in Lille. From 1919 he was then pastor in Binsdorf until he moved to Waiblingen in 1929. From 1933 he was active as a city pastor in Tettnang and was elected dean in 1938. Due to the rejection of the National Socialist worldview, he was imprisoned by the Gestapo for three weeks in 1941 and then expelled from the Friedrichshafen district, although he had to give up his pastoral position. Afterwards he worked as a pastor in Stetten near Tuttlingen from 1942 until he retired in 1946.

Since 1906 Koch was a member of the Catholic student union AV Guestfalia Tübingen .
