Wilhelm Korfmacher (* 1787 in Linnich ; † 1860 ) was a German organ builder .

Life

Korfmacher was active in the Aachen area and in neighboring Belgium . His father, Peter Josef Korfmacher, had been an organ builder in Linnich since 1805. In 1838 Wilhelm Korfmacher took over the parents' workshop. The workshop was taken over in 1862 by Michael Dauzenberg , who had worked there since 1843.

In the years after 1840 he was also involved in organ building in Stavelot and Namur, Belgium . During this time, the later famous organ builder Joseph Merklin was also employed by him.

As a special feature, the organs by Wilhelm Korfmacher, the so-called romantic organs, have an unmistakable and unobtrusive sound.
