The Protestant Reconciliation Church is a church building in Buschhoven , a place in the Swisttal community in the Rhein-Sieg district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). It is a listed building as a monument .

History and architecture

The former Catholic parish church of St. Katharina was acquired by the Protestant parish in 1984 after a new church had been built for one of the oldest pilgrimages to Mary in the Rhineland, the Rose Madonna . The church was a stop on one of the historic St. James ' Paths, as the shell attached to the outer wall, the symbol of the St. James pilgrims , still indicates today. The simple hall building from 1723 stands on a walled cemetery. The west tower was added in 1804. During a comprehensive renovation in 1984/85, the exterior was plastered and painted ocher. The painted medallions of the Evangelists on the barrel vault are remnants of a painting from the late 19th century. After the new pilgrimage church was built, this church was no longer maintained and gradually fell into disrepair. Demolition was also considered in the 1970s. In 2001, the German Foundation for Monument Protection also participated in the repair work.
