Wilhelm Krauskopf

Wilhelm Krauskopf (born June 30, 1847 in Zerbst , † August 18, 1921 in Illenau ) was a German etcher and art teacher.

Krauskopf studied painting in Dessau, Dresden and from May 4, 1870 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich with Johann Leonhard Raab and took part in the Franco-German War during his studies . From 1874 to 1877 Krauskopf worked at the Imperial German Institute in Rome , then moved back to Munich.

He then worked at the Grand Ducal Baden Academy of the Arts in Karlsruhe from 1892 as a teacher and from 1894 as a professor of etching and engraving. In 1896 he received a small gold medal at the International Art Exhibition in Berlin . In 1899 he retired. In Karlsruhe he was a member of the Freemason Lodge Leopold zur Loyalty .

Wilhelm Krauskopf created numerous portraits and also some landscapes as etchings based on his own templates as well as on the works of other artists, who were published by Breitkopf & Härtel , among others .
