Wilhelm Lahmeyer
Friedrich Wilhelm Lahmeyer (born April 26, 1859 in Clausthal ; † December 9, 1907 in Bonn ) was a German electrical entrepreneur .
parents
His father Adolph Lahmeyer was a tithe cashier and later an accountant for the mining administration in Clausthal. His mother Auguste was a daughter of the Clausthal general superintendent Johann Ernst Wilhelm Gericke (1796–1871).
Vita
Wilhelm Lahmeyer studied mathematics in Göttingen and Gießen and later electrical engineering in Hanover with Wilhelm Friedrich Kohlrausch . He then worked as an assistant at the Aachen Polytechnic .
He invented a self-regulating arc lamp . The invention of the first direct current external pole machine, the so-called Lahmeyer type , gave the impetus to found the company Deutsche Elektrizitätswerke zu Aachen, Garbe, Lahmeyer & Co. in 1886 , which manufactured electric lamps, smaller dynamos and motors.
In 1890 Lahmeyer left the company and founded Wilhelm Lahmeyer & Co. KG in Frankfurt am Main , which built large electrical machines and power plants. In 1891 he presented a direct current system with a transmission over 10 km from Offenbach am Main to the exhibition hall at the International Electrotechnical Exhibition in Frankfurt am Main . Furthermore, he secured the patents of Friedrich August Haselwander .

The engineering department of his company was transferred to a holding company, today's Lahmeyer International , in 1892. On April 1, 1893, the Elektrizitäts-AG, formerly W. Lahmeyer & Co. , was established, which was also merged with the Cologne-based company Felten & Guilleaume from 1905 to 1910 .
In 1893 Lahmeyer retired for health reasons. From 1897 he lived in a mental hospital.
Honors
