After graduating from school, Lambrecht completed an apprenticeship as a mechanic in Einbeck . During this time he was already interested in the construction of measuring instruments. His apprenticeship was followed by a journey of several years , which took him to Paris and Berlin , including Siemens & Halske . In 1859 he founded a workshop in Einbeck, which he relocated to Göttingen in 1864. There he came into contact with several well-known Göttingen natural scientists such as Friedrich Wöhler , Wilhelm Eduard Weber and Wilhelm Klinkerfues .

In collaboration with Klinkerfues, he invented a igniter for gas lanterns . When the marketing of the same failed due to the severe stock market crisis of 1873 , one turned back to measuring instruments, especially in the meteorological area. Lambrecht first developed a hair hygrometer designed by Klinkerfues. After a dispute, the two separated and Lambrecht developed his own measuring devices from then on . From 1873 he succeeded in developing a dew point mirror hygrometer , a polymeter , an aspiration psychrometer , several weather telegraphs and weather columns . His meteorological products were popular in many large cities and health resorts before the First World War . In addition to developing meteorological measuring instruments, Lambrecht also developed a type of minimum thermometer for medical use.

The company he founded and named after him still exists in Göttingen today. In addition, a street in the Göttingen industrial area is named after him.
