Wilhelm Niemann (politician)
Wilhelm Niemann (born July 14, 1949 in Dortmund , † March 26, 2012 in Osnabrück ) was a German politician ( CDU ). From 1999 to 2004 he was the first full-time mayor of Rheine .
Life
Niemann, born in Dortmund in 1949, studied law in Würzburg and was an electoral officer and department head in the Osnabrück district from 1989 to 1999 . On September 12, 1999, he was elected in the first direct election of the mayor in Rheine with an absolute majority of 52.1%, replacing the incumbent mayor and favorite Günter Thum . In the next mayoral election in 2004 he had to face a runoff election and surprisingly lost to Angelika Kordfelder from the SPD .
Assigned to Waltrop by the district president as a savings advisor , he accompanied the city through austerity measures until December 31, 2007.
Niemann was married and had three children, a son and two daughters.
