Wilhelm Nils Fresenius

Wilhelm Nils Fresenius (born July 17, 1913 in Berlin ; † July 31, 2004 in Wiesbaden ) was a German chemist and managing director of the Fresenius Institute (laboratory service provider for food testing).

Life

His father was the chemist Ludwig Fresenius (1886–1936). After studying chemistry, he received his doctorate in 1939 from the University of Frankfurt . In 1949 he took over the management of the chemical laboratory founded by his great-grandfather Carl Remigius Fresenius . Under his leadership, the Fresenius Institute in Taunusstein became the German market leader for food analysis. For 20 years he was a member of the Wiesbaden city council and was chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. The Fresenius University of Applied Sciences in Idstein and the Wilhelm Fresenius Clinic in Wiesbaden are named after him. He was also an honorary citizen of the city of Wiesbaden.

In his scientific work, he tried to improve the quality of drinking and mineral water and other foods.

During his life he was involved in the church and for many years chaired the church council of the evangelical mountain church community in Wiesbaden.
