meaning

Wilhelm Peterle was a typical representative of municipal housing in Red Vienna during the interwar period. In contrast to most of his colleagues, he was close to the idea of the garden city and carried out several projects of this type. Instead of row houses, he created villa-like buildings for several families with small front gardens that were designed differently. The associated pavilions and pergolas underlined the homely, almost Biedermeier character of such housing estates. Peterle always paid more attention to the surroundings of the building projects and included them in his planning.
