Wilhelm Plünnecke

Wilhelm Plünnecke (born June 17, 1894 in Hanover , † August 24, 1954 in Stuttgart ) was a German painter, graphic artist, etcher, draftsman and book illustrator.

Live and act

Wilhelm Plünnecke came from a family of architects. He studied with Emil Orlik in Berlin and at the Leipzig Academy . He was used as a soldier in the First World War, so that some of his works contain this topic. He had been a member of the Hanover Secession Association since 1918 and produced the poster for the first exhibition and the cover of the exhibition catalog. In 1919 he designed the title page for the third pamphlet Umsturz und Aufbau or the illustrations for the book Mädchen im Soldierrock, the story of Sergeant Friederike Auguste Krüger by Werner May.

In 1940 he received his doctorate from the University of Leipzig . He later lived in Tübingen, where he worked as a university drawing teacher. From there he moved to Stuttgart, where he a. a. worked as a freelancer for the Stuttgarter Nachrichten.
