Wilhelm Rögge the Younger
Wilhelm Rögge the Younger (born June 12, 1870 in Munich ; † 1946 in Oberaudorf ) was a German genre painter and illustrator, son of the history painter and fresco artist Ernst Friedrich Wilhelm Rögge the Elder (born April 28, 1829 in Ostercappeln near Osnabrück; † 11. February 1908 in Munich)
Wilhelm Rögge the Younger studied from October 18, 1886 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich with Wilhelm Lindenschmit the Younger and Karl Raupp . He stuck to traditional, academic painting in the style of Carl Spitzweg for life . His pictures are often confused with the works of his father. He was a member of the Munich Artists' Cooperative .
Rögge provided illustrations for many magazines; he has illustrated a large number of books (see DNB catalog) such as B. Mark Twain's “ The Adventures of Tom Sawyer ” (1900), Jules Verne “ Journey around the Earth in 80 Days ” (1900), “ Five Weeks in the Realm of the Air ” (1903) and many more
