Wilhelm Richter (painter, 1824)
Wilhelm Richter (* 1824 - June 14, 1892 in Vienna ) was an Austrian genre , hunting and military painter.
life and work
Wilhelm Richter studied under the famous painters Leopold Kupelwieser and Johann Nepomuk Ender at the Vienna Academy . As early as 1848/49 he took part in the campaign in Northern Italy as a war painter at the headquarters of the Imperial Austrian Army , as well as in the campaign of 1859 there. In the 1870s Richter often stayed in Gödöllö at the imperial hunting lodge there, where he painted a large group picture of the imperial hunting party in 1872. This was followed by other paintings of this subject , such as B. Emperor Franz Joseph on the Parforce Hunt (1875). Several of Richter's paintings are now in the Army History Museum in Vienna and document in an excellent way those campaigns that Richter himself witnessed as a war painter.
