Wilhelm Rusterberg

Wilhelm Rusterberg (born August 16, 1926 - August 15, 2002 ) was a German local politician and a leader in the local fire service.

Life

Rusterberg joined the Wülferode volunteer fire department as early as 1942 .

From 1955 to 1974 Rusterberg was fire supervisor in the then independent municipality of Wülferode, and from 1962 to 1974 he was also sub-district fire supervisor in "Sub-district II Hanover-Land". From 1977 to 1988 Rusterberg was the city ​​fire chief in Hanover and in 1988 was named "honorary fire chief".

Meanwhile, Rusterberg was the first deputy mayor of the municipality of Wülferode from 1968 to 1974. After the merger of Wülferode and Bemerode , Rusterberg became a member of the Bemerode-Wülferode local council in 1976 (until the town was incorporated into the city of Hanover ) . After 1981, Rusterberg was a member of the council of the Hanover city district of Kirchrode-Bemerode-Wülferode for around ten years .

Place naming

In 2009, a street renaming to Wilhelm-Rusterberg-Weg in Wülferode failed due to gender proportionality and objections from residents. Instead, the then Lord Mayor Stephan Weil honored Wilhelm Rusterberg in October 2010 by renaming the area in front of the fire station in Wülferode to Wilhelm-Rusterberg-Platz .
