Wilhelm Siemer

Wilhelm Siemer (born April 5, 1904 in Berlin-Niederschönhausen ; † June 5, 1991 in Jever ) was a German missionary and pastor .

Life

Wilhelm Siemer was the fourth of six siblings. From 1909 he spent his youth in Neuruppin , where the family had moved because his father was employed as a clerk at the Königigl. District court had received. As a teenager he joined the Youth League for Resolute Christianity . After completing his commercial training in Neuruppin, Ilsenburg and Bad Herzberg, he applied to the Liebenzeller Mission and was trained as a missionary.

From 1930 to 1938 he worked as a missionary on Palau / West Carolina , which was then under Japanese administration, and on Yap .

Here he learned the local language and proselytized successfully.

During this time he collected numerous testimonies of the local culture and took impressive photographs of the way of life of the inhabitants on the islands of Yap and Palau. Many pictures from this period were incorporated into works by Hans-Otto Meissner .

After the end of his missionary work, he worked as a pastor in Daubhausen and Greifenstein . Even in retirement he worked as a hospital chaplain .
