Wilhelm Sommer (psychiatrist)
Karl Wilhelm Sommer (born July 9, 1852 in Frankfurt (Oder) ; † January 10, 1900 in Allenberg ( Wehlau district ) / East Prussia ) was a psychiatrist, neurologist, anthropologist and pathologist. The name “Summer Sector” of the Ammonshorn goes back to him .
Life
Sommer was born as the son of a doctor in Frankfurt / Oder and also attended high school there. In 1870 he worked as an assistant to the Johanniter nursing staff. The following year he began studying medicine in Berlin, Würzburg and Leipzig. In the last year of his studies he already worked as an assistant at the Chemnitz City Hospital. He also visited clinics in Halle / Saale and Leipzig. In the spring of 1879 he passed his state examination and on May 13, 1879 became an assistant doctor at the Allenberg Provincial Sanatorium near Wehlau . Here he worked under Julius Jensen and Karl Waehner , was promoted to second doctor in 1885 and in 1890, after completing his doctorate in Würzburg in 1888, succeeded Waehner as director of the Allenberg institution. He remained in this position until his unexpected death in 1900. Summer put studies on cerebellar sclerosis, about adhesions in the area of the Atlas, about "criminal lunatic" and "deceptive criminals" on the relationship between nervous disposition and deviations of the shape of the skull, as well as anthropological studies about via Latvian grave skull from the Curonian Spit ago .
