Wilhelm Wenz

Wilhelm August Wenz (born October 21, 1886 in Frankfurt am Main ; † September 12, 1945 ) was a German malacologist .

Wenz, the son of a master craftsman, graduated from high school in Frankfurt and studied mathematics and physics. Botany and zoology in Heidelberg, Tübingen and Marburg and received his doctorate summa cum laude in physics in Marburg in 1908 ( determination of the speed of sound in potassium vapor and the resulting monatomic nature of its molecules ). He belonged to Wilhelm Kobelt's group at the Senckenberg Museum and, as a research assistant, remained closely connected to the museum and its mollusc collection . His main job was a teacher in Hanau . He was one of the leading German mollusc researchers. He was also an expert on the tertiary of the Mainz basin . He was the editor of the Archives for Molluscology. He died as a result of an operation.
