Wilhelm Zimmer

Wilhelm Carl August Zimmer (born April 16, 1853 in Apolda , † December 20, 1937 in Reichenberg , Dresden district) was a German painter .

Zimmer mainly painted landscapes and other motifs from his home town of Thuringia . He attended the Weimar art school from 1871 to 1878 as a student of Theodor Hagen and became a teacher there himself. As a professor he headed the genre painting class from 1883 to 1885. During stays on Rügen in Göhren / Mönchgut in 1881, he painted a series of at least twelve pen and ink drawings about the work and everyday life of the fishermen there. His next places of residence were Düsseldorf (from 1889), Eisenach (from 1893), Königsfeld / Baden (from 1903), Buchenberg near Königsfeld (from 1905) and the "Schweitzerhaus" in Lößnitzgrund between Radebeul and Buchholz near Dresden (from 1908). The last residence belonged to Buchholz (changed to Friedewald in 1940 ) and from 1918 to Reichenberg near Dresden. Zimmer was married to Anna, née Thomas (March 24, 1856 Warmbrunn near Hirschberg / Riesengebirge - January 1, 1936 Reichenberg, Dresden district). In February 2005 an exhibition with pictures of Zimmer took place in Eisenach .
