Wilhelm von zur Mühlen

Wilhelm von zur Mühlen (born September 18, 1792 in Reval ; † June 6, 1847 ) was an Imperial Russian major general and holder of the order Pour le Mérite .

Life and family environment

Wilhelm Johann von zur Mühlen came from the German-Baltic aristocratic family Mühlen , which began its lineage with the merchant and mayor of Narwa Hermen thor Moelen in the 16th century, who was raised to imperial nobility on February 15, 1792 and that of the Livonian family since 1797 Knighthood had been enrolled. Military career

Wilhelm von zur Mühlen was first raised with his brothers Thomas and Friedrich von zur Mühlen by his stepmother Henriette Jencken, who his father had married in 1796. He then entered the Imperial Russian Army as an officer candidate and then took part in the wars against France. As a lieutenant for the quartermaster in the suite of Emperor Alexander I , he distinguished himself in such a way that the Russian cavalry general Count Ludwig Adolf Peter zu Sayn-Wittgenstein submitted a petition to the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm for him (and other Russian officers) III. asked for the award of the Prussian order Pour le Mérite .

With the highest cabinet order of June 11, 1813, King Count Wittgenstein granted this request and awarded the proposed Russian officers with the Pour le Mérite: “... At your request, very dear General, ..... I have .... the Lieutenant Zur Mühlen ..... awarded the Order of Merit ... "

After the end of the Napoleonic Wars , Wilhelm von zur Mühlen continued to serve in the Russian army and gradually advanced to major general.
