Baron Gevers, 1904

Willem Alexander Frederik Baron Gevers (born August 24, 1856 in Saint Petersburg , † October 1, 1927 in Bern ) was a Dutch diplomat .

Gevers was the son of Johan Cornelis Baron Gevers (1806–1872), long-time Dutch ambassador to Saint Petersburg, and Catherine Mary Wright (1823–1908), the only daughter of US Senator William Wright , who initially opposed marriage. Gevers also had a sister, Catherine, who later became Baroness von Furth.

Gevers studied in Bonn , where his mother moved after her husband's death in 1872. From 1900 to 1904 Gevers was "Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Minister" of the Netherlands in Washington, DC and from 1906 to 1927 he was the Dutch envoy in Berlin . Gevers married on April 14, 1910 Gijsberta Johanna Anna Adolphina van den Bosch (1883–1952), the daughter of the envoy Willem Joannes Petrus van den Bosch and the baroness Anna Elisabeth Rijnarda van Hardenbroek. The couple had two sons, Willem Johan Gijsbert, born on January 16, 1911, and Maximilian Edward, born on May 31, 1912, both in Berlin.

Gevers was valet of Queen Wilhelmina . The embassy of the strictly monarchically minded Gevers in Berlin became after 1918 one of the gathering points of the former members of the imperial court society.
