Willem Jozef Andreas Jonckbloet (born July 6, 1817 in The Hague , † October 19, 1885 in Wiesbaden ) was a Dutch historian.

Life

Jonckbloet studied medicine at the University of Leiden from 1835 , then law, before finally turning to the study of Low German literature .

After he had been made an honorary doctorate by the Philosophical Faculty in Leiden in 1840 for a treatise on Lodewijk van Velthem , he was appointed professor at the Academy in Deventer in 1847 , which he held until 1854, and in 1878 he became a professor at the University of Leiden.

Incidentally, Jonckbloet was also active in the political field as a long-time member of the Second Chamber of the States General . He died on October 19, 1885 in Wiesbaden.
